Enviro-Air duct cleaning…

So yesterday I had Enviro-Air (of Springfield, MO)  come out to to clean our air ducts in the house, you can read previous post about this.   The service tech’s showed up around 10am and started working on the system.  They where professional and did a great job.  After all was done, they finished things off, put together the furnace and attempted to fire it up, no luck.  After a few attempts they notice they hooked the blower wiring up to the wrong thing. (two white wires) After again getting shocked a few more times, they decided to call in a repair man.  It’s almost noon the next day and I’m still out of a A/C unit.   It’s around 80 in the house as I write this, I have the attic fan on, the rest of the family is up at the in-laws keeping cool.

Here are some pics from yesterdays cool equipment they had:

There is something about this beef ad that doesn’t seem right.

I’m by no means a vegetarian, I enjoy my meats.  I enjoy BBQ, grilling, searing, pan fried, oven fried, as long as it’s cooked, I’m happy with it.   I understand that somewhere down the road, a piece of meat was once a living animal.   And to get to my plate, I hope it was executed by the quickest and painless method possible.

Still, does this not look right:

Subway. Eat Fresh. Dissecting the vinegar.

I love Subway, sometimes I have been considered to be addicted to it.  My favorite sub has always been the veggie delite, what is it, think of it has a salad wrapped in a nice loaf of bread, as the dressing I use some mayo and lots of Subway vinegar, what’s with that stuff anyway, I could seriously put a straw in it and suck it up.   I think I have uncovered the mystery of how this awesome stuff is made.  I’ll explain my findings here.

HVAC/Duct Cleaning

Today I had a estimate done on cleaning our HVAC and Duct work in our house.  Why, well our house is 15 years old now, I don’t think it had ever been cleaned and the returns are a royal mess filled with dust. Not a good thing.   Here is the break down.

  • Furnace Cleaning (including Blower and A-Coil)   $130
  • Cleaning per supply   $20 ( I have 21 supply feeds )
  • Cleaning per return    $30 ( I have 3 return feeds )
  • Optional -Anti-Microbial/ Deodorizer Treatment   $70
Total with option treatment is $760.
Their method of cleaning.
They hooks a massive vacuum up to the Furnace unit, with vacuum going, they then run a kinda duster type thing, picture those long clothe things you would see in a car wash system that looks like big arms hanging down, picture those with compressed air shooting out of them spinning all around cleaning your ducts and on top of that the vacuum on the other end sucking it all out.   They do that for all the supplies and returns.  They also completely clean the A-Coil and Blower and the full furnace unit.  To me this seems like a good deal.  It does sound a bit high, but in 15 years, this probably a good thing to do.
Maybe I need to get a few more estimates.

Note to self/reader:  I posted this on the fly 2 seconds after I downloaded the app, there is a ton of function in this app.  Enjoy it!

Terminal on the iPhone 3G

I have to admit, I don’t have the 3G iPhone, but the title got your attention didn’t it?  I do actually have an iPhone, so this still applies.   Prior to iPhone OS version 2, I had my iPhone Jailbroken, it was then that the iPhone was truly the best mobile device out.   I had mobileterminal, a required application for me since I manage a bunch of linux servers. ( you can see my prior post with it here.)

Fast forward now to version 2, with app store.  Apple has made some good improvements with the iPhone base package and software, no longer are your apps just bookmarks, but you can actually do stuff on your iPhone.  There is some really cool apps out.  (granted, when Jailbroken, most of those apps where free, or at least a try before buy)   Keeping true to Apples tight control over the products, Apple fans claim it’s for “quality control” reasons, I have yet to drink that koolaide, app store applications for iTunes has to be approved by Apple and of course they will not approve a terminal application on the iPhone, this would open the iPhone up beyond their control.   (please Apple, prove me wrong)

So I have been thinking of ways to go around this, it hit me, Leopard has VNC built in, the app store has Mocha VNC Lite, the two can mean you have a pretty “round about” terminal app.   It’s really a pain to use, but it does work if your in a mess and need it quickly.

my Dyson Review, does is suck?

So we finally broke down and bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner.  I do like to help around the house when I can (though my wife might say otherwise), one thing I’m good at doing is vacuuming, it’s like second nature to me, why you may ask, cause I love to mow the lawn, yes I really do, and pushing a vacuum as about as close to indoor mowing as you can get. ( nothing better to do on a rainy day when you can’t mow the lawn then to break out your trust vacuum and put it to the test.)  Speaking of test, since we got this Dyson, and everyone talked it up to be the best thing, I decided to completely clean out our old (by old I mean 2 years) Kenmore vacuum and pick a room a run both vacuums in, here is my test run.

  •  clean the Kenmore
  •  vacuum with the Kenmore
  •  unpack the Dyson
  •  vacuum with the Dyson
The procedure was actually pretty simple and straight forward. I wanted to see if the Dyson would really suck better.
Could the Dyson pick more stuff out of the carpet even after I ran the Kenmore on it?
The test and results -
Here is the Dyson all boxed up, fresh from the store.

3G Hype…

So today the new 3G iPhone came out, I’m hoping to get the full scoop on it from ImpossileFactory.

Here is a pic of the line my co-worker was in (also the author of the great posts on the above site) Might I also mention that his wife is probably going to go in labor any minute.  I predict baby RR V2 before he gets his new iphone!  :-)

(I’m happy for now with my “old” iPhone..  we’ll see what cool stuff the guys at IF find out)

iTunes just finished downloading V2 for my iPhone and it’s syncing now. :-)

Below is a pic of the local ATT store line on my way home from the gym/sb.

the perfect combo…

Usually number 1’s at McDonalds are the perfect combo.  Ooops…  Did I say that. In this health conscience world we live in.  We are not aloud to enjoy the simple stuff. (actually if you look at what’s all included in that bigmac combo, you might not consider it.

Over the past year I have picked up running, biking, best put Life at Full Speed, again. It got hard after the first kid to manage a good work out program. It’s actually harder for me with the with weather change, I LOVE to work out in the summer time, and keep my gym membership for the winter time, where I can at least break a sweat (maybe I’m more motivated when it’s hot out).  For anyone knows me, I do enjoy playing many sports.  I could go on with excuses if I wanted too, but will leave it at that.

The real point of this post is to talk about Nike+, my new workout buddy.  (I’ve actually had one for a couple years now) Nike deserves a post here, what a cool gadget.  My Nike+ unit hooks up to my iPod nano and a sensor goes into my shoe, as I run, it clocks me, and gives me updates on my run, I can also pick power songs, but the coolest part, is when I’m done with the run, and I sync my iPod up, my run information is sent to nikes website and I now have a chart of my runs. For kicks, I can even challenge a friend to a run.  For gadget owners, this is worth the buy, it’s a win win.

Another good tech idea is to blog your workouts, keeps you on motivated! (and lets you look back at what you have done).  I do.
